How strenuous are your tours?
We recommend being in reasonably good shape. If you go on walks around your neighborhood, you will easily be comfortable on our tours. Occasionally, gardens are on hillsides and will require the ability to hike up and down slightly steep hills. Some of the public gardens are fairly expansive, and garden docents will go at a reasonable pace to complete the tour. Generally, you can find a bench in the shade to rest if the walking is too much and rejoin the group later.

What's different about Garden Discovery Tours?
We blend a good combination of private and public gardens and shopping opportunities. In most instances, you will be able to experience the gardens we visit through the eyes of the creators of the garden - what is its history, what are the gardeners favorite plants, how did the garden evolve... Your tour hosts have a good background in horticulture and can answer many of the questions you might have about the gardens. In all instances we have a lot of fun, make great gardening friendships, and experience inspiring gardens.

Who else will be on the tour I select?
There will be a wide range of tour participants from gardening novices to aficionados. Folks come from a wide geographic area, with a range of age and backgrounds. Gardeners tend to be really nice, friendly, sharing folks, and you can anticipate making a number of gardening friendships. We encourage you to invite a friend, sibling, parent, or other relative to be your companion on the tour (not to mention spouse). Which brings up the next question...

I love to garden, but my spouse doesn't. Should I drag him/her along or leave him/her back home?
We visit some very interesting places which have proven to have broad appeal even to non-gardeners. We also build community in our groups so that everyone feels comfortable and included. So, as long as they don't whine, bring them along - they'll have fun.

I hope to purchase some really neat plants and garden accessories, how do I do that?
Each tour usually combines some great shopping stops, but if you are planning on buying a lot, you may find space and time to be an obstacle. We will have space to accommodate a reasonable amount of purchases in the luggage storage bins, but you may want to plan a longer stay. We're not able to hit every garden center in the area, and we'll give you some suggestions about additional shopping opportunities. For trips abroad you will find bringing plants back into the United States problematic due to USDA inspection regulations.
